Camping spots can range from the middle of a forest to the middle of a desert. But have you ever wanted to go camping in the Grand Canyon? Located entirely in northern Arizona and being one of the great tourist spots in the world, the camping in the Grand Canyon is a very good choice. By camping here you will be spending a little more than usual, but it’s all worth it. Before your trip, take time for proper planning and preparing the correct equipment for the correct camping spot.

Planning and Finding a spot

Camping in the Grand Canyon is the rest and relaxing after a day of activity whether fishing, hiking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting - you get the idea. Outfitters usually provide you with the basics of what you will need such as a sleeping bag & pad, tent, eating utensils etc. All you need to do is provide is your outdoor camping clothes, hat, flashlight, sunscreen, personal gear such as your toothbrush and a good attitude. Camping in the Grand Canyon is so much more comfortable today with folding chairs, warm campfires, cold drinks and some outfitters even offer wine or beer tasting, live music, geology and naturalist lectures.

Planning and finding a spot for camping in the Grand Canyon is the most important step. There are two options available when it comes to making choices; either you can take a developed camp ground that has been specialized for people who want to spend the night there or you can chose an area that is not specifically designated for camping purposes. Have camping in the Grand Canyon at least once in your lifetime - and what better time than your honeymoon? It will please the adventurer, the observer and the romantic. Visit in the summer months for guaranteed heat, but keep in mind that the best hiking and camping is done in the fall and spring.

Equipment preparation

If you go for the first choice, you should carry your equipment just like any other camping trip. Wear good hiking boots that are broken in to prevent blisters, and bring extra socks. Bring a warm sleeping bag and coat in case a cold front settles in. Beware of packing excess weight if you plan to hike a lot. Pack it in, pack it out.  Camping in the Grand Canyon is restricted due to the policy of protecting the canyon. Thus, no kind of weapons and knives are allowed, in fear that users will harm the flora and fauna as well as the landscape around the area.
